Taylorsville MetroPark is an area of transportation history surrounded by natural beauty. In 1839 National Road passed through Tadmor just to the north. For fifty years National Road was the busiest roadway in the country. With the construction of the Taylorsville Dam the road was rerouted to bring travelers across the top of the dam. Always a means for east/west travel the road was heavily used through the 1950s Golden Age of Automobiling. The paved areas now used for walking and picnicking were once overnight car camping spots. Today explore the park on foot, hiking the trails or sledding in the winter.

The Violet Trail is a gentle, short hike that can be extended by taking the non color trail to the reservable shelter area. Pass by stately trees and listen as the trains travel through on the railway below.
