Waipoli Access Road Closed to Vehicular Traffic for Maintenance

The Kula Forest Reserve Waipoli Access Road is close for an indeterminable time due to poor road conditions. Until the road dries out and maintenance work can be performed, all vehicular traffic must stop at the Hunter's Check-in Station.

Closed from May 10, 2021 to TBA

Trail begins along the Science City Access Road past Haleakala National Park. The terrain is rugged and barren with over a dozen cinder cones and craters along the length of the rift. Vegetation is almost nonexistent above the treeline, with the Mamane tree line ending at 8,600' at Kanahau. You must pass 2 locked gates along the trail. The native scrub is denser and varied at the lower end. Wear bright clothing. Be aware that you may encounter hunters who are hunting off the trail. Stay on trail.
