The trail provides picturesque views of Hanalei Valley and Bay. It follows a ridge top route established in the days of prohibition, when Okolehao, a Hawaiian liquor was being distilled from the roots of Ki plants, some of which still remain alongside the trail route. Access is from a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service parking area off Ohiki Road in Hanalei Valley. The trail travels into Halelea Forest Reserve and ends at a hill called Kaukaopua.
