Passing through the oldest neighborhoods in Bend and historic Drake Park, the Pioneer Reach section of the Deschutes River Trail features a riverfront boardwalk and a safe passage tunnel beneath Newport Avenue. Several footbridges offer opportunities to cross the river and connect to surrounding neighborhoods and parks and several boat landings at adjacent parks provide river access. As a fun bonus, the trail passes by the Bend Whitewater Park, offering users a great place to watch river surfing and whitewater kayaking action.
