A lush floodplain forest surrounds most of the linear Cedar Falls Trail. Black walnuts with fern-like leaves, elms, and swamp white oaks form a canopy above your head. In the spring, the forest is ablaze with the blues of the common violet and the dainty Virginia bluebell. As summer progresses, these flowers are replaced with dense stands of a stout composite called leafcup. The falls itself cascades over a bedrock, which has been weathered by the water to create a steppingstone effect.
