At times a wide ATV trail, at times a series of braided game trails, and at times just a general route over the tundra, Caribou Creek Trail is nonetheless one of the best gateways deep into the Talkeetna Range. The route travels from densely vegetated boreal forest all the way to the open tundra of Chitna Pass (4,800'), often referred to as the "poor man's Brooks Range."
The upper half of Caribou Creek Trail is part of the 40 mile Chitna Pass backpacking loop as described in 55 Ways to the Wilderness in Southcentral Alaska. Beginning on the Hick's Creek Trail, the challenging route heads up Caribou Creek to Chitna Pass before descending Boulder Creek.
This trail is multi-use and used in the winter by snowmachine.
