The Big Swamp Trail is part of the West Gateway Winter Trail System that is managed for multiple-use be the Willow Trail Committee.

Snowmachiners, dog mushers, skiers, fat tire bikers and runners utilize the trails from November to April. The trails are groomed and signed throughout the season by the trail committee. The West Gateway Trails are the venue for many winter trail events such as the Iditarod Dog Sled Race, Irondog Race and the Willow Winter Carnival.
