Though heavily impacted by motorized use, Belanger Pass is still one of the prime multi-use, year round trails in the Talkeetnas. Used as an access route to mining claims on Alfred Creek and elsewhere, the trail is also popular with recreational ATV riders, fossil hunters, hikers, snowmachiners and the occasional mountain biker. Beautiful scenery with views of Gunsight Mountain and the Chugach.
The trail begins at around 3000' and climbs steadily to 4000' before descending along (and through) Pass Creek.
To find the Belanger Pass Trail, turn onto Startup Road around mile 123 of the Glenn Highway. Park at a pullout right at the intersection, or drive in another mile up Startup Road past some private property cabins to where the trail departs to the right.
