The TRT circumnavigates the Lake Tahoe Basin, generally near the rim of the surrounding mountains. As such, it crosses all major routes into Lake Tahoe. Trailheads or marked crossings can be found near the crests on US 50 (E&W), CA 89 (N&S), CA 267, NV 431, and NV 207, with system access spurs in Tahoe City and South Lake Tahoe.
