The Stone Mountain Historic Trail is a 5-mile historic trail which explores much of Stone Mountain Park's Natural District around the base of the mountain, with a mile section going up and over the west side of the mountain (crossing the walk up trail). The trail is marked by white arrows on granite posts and rectangular blazes on trees or the rock surface. While the trail primarily passes through the mature oak-hickory forest, views of the lakes, streams, and mountain are common. Frequent mammal and bird sightings are possible year-round. A one-mile section of the trail passes through the commercial section of the park and allows for a water or restroom stop. Dogs on a 6'leash are allowed on the trail.
