The trail is a 100-mile network of water trails and greenways combining seven state heritage preserves with a national landmark historic district, a national wildlife refuge, a state park and a military base. The trail offers opportunities for biking, fishing, boating, hiking and horseback riding.
A guidebook for the trail is available, features the Port Royal Sound Sea Kayak Trail, a 24-image aerial photo collage, site maps for 14 destinations, 100 miles of "blueway" trails, 11 boat landings and latitude and longitude coordinates.
