The four concrete obelisks flanking festival plaza were erected in 2001 when the former Van Cleve Park became RiverScape MetroPark. To honor the defining event and the impact it had on the community’s relationship with the river, the 1913 flood level of the Great Dayton Flood are marked on these obelisks. Below the flood level, the concrete is smooth; above it is rough. This is to simulate the action of the flood waters.
