The blacksmith shop was used by the family to repair wagons and farm machinery and make items for the farm such as tools, horseshoes, latches, hooks and hearth cooking tools. The shop features a forge for heating up the metal and an anvil for working on it.

First, some of the buildings at the farm have been recreated, using period techniques and supplies, and placed in their original locations. This would include buildings like the ice house, blacksmith shop, woodshop and smokehouse.

The blacksmith shop was reconstructed on its approximate original site in 1976.
