Along the trail you may have noticed several boxes with small holes in them mounted to posts. These are bird nesting boxes that were built and installed by students at Scotts Valley High School. They provide nesting habitat for birds such as the Western Bluebird (Sialia mexicana) who usually rely on holes in trees to provide cavitys for their nests. By building boxes, we provide additional nesting sites to help the birds successfully fledge more young. What birds have you seen while visiting the preserve?
