This ancient oak was named after Victor Anseman (1842-1904), who is considered the "Father of City Park". Anseman was a retired florist and nurseryman, who devoted the last fifteen years of his life to developing the Park. In 1891, he assembled a group of business and political leaders to form the City Park Improvement Association. This organization continues to watch the Park grow.
