Pack your binoculars as this Daycation takes you to one of our favorite wildlife hot spots, Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge, where your little ones can have fun spotting deer, newts, and an incredible variety of birds that call this refuge home. No binoculars? No problem. Stop into the Visitor Center and check out a Discovery Pack, full of items to help your kiddos become wildlife spotters. Then, pop over to Sherwood to climb and play at Stella Olsen Memorial Park before following the stroller-friendly trail along Cedar Creek into Sherwood’s historic Old Town.

Hours: The refuge is open from dawn to dusk.
Trails at Tualatin River NWR: River Trail and Ridgetop Trail open year-round. Wetland trail only open from May 1st - September 30th.
Features: A wildlife refuge perfect for bird-lovers and bug-lovers alike, an awesome playground, and a boardwalk that leads through the trees into Sherwood’s charming Old Town where you can fill up any hungry bellies after your adventures.
Parking: Parking is available in the lot at Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge and at Stella Olsen Memorial Park.
Directions To Tualatin River NWR (From the Friends of Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge):
- From the North: Drive southbound on Highway 99W and continue through the town of King City. Approximately .7 miles beyond the Cipole Rd traffic light, turn right into the refuge. Look for brown highway guide signs.
- From the South: Drive northbound on Highway 99W, approximately 1 mile north of Tualatin-Sherwood Road. Look for brown highway guide signs directing you to make a U-turn in order to enter into the refuge.
Potty Break: Restrooms are available at Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge, Stella Olsen Memorial Park, and are available for customers in most of the businesses mentioned.
- Bathrooms are CLOSED at Tualatin River NWR (both at the trailhead and in the visitor’s center). There are two portapotties in the parking lot, one of which is ADA.
Closed Areas at the Refuge: Visitor center, photography blind, office, and facility restrooms. The seasonal trail is closed until May 2022.
