This Daycation takes you on a stroll along the Overlook Trail through a living museum!! Did you know the Hoyt Arboretum is a living museum that has been around since 1928!! The park includes over 2,300 species from around the world!! As you walk through the forest, you'll learn how trees are connected to us, to each other, and to the places where they grow (their ecosystems!)


The Hoyt Arboretum is open from 5 am to 10 pm daily. The visitor center is open from 10 am to 3 pm required face masks. There is a brochure rack at the entrance of the Visitor Center where you can find "Children's Adventure Map" and other park brochures.  The Daycation ends at the Discovery Center, if you would like to continue on other trails there is the Maple Trail, which connects to the Wildwood Trail, then back to the overlook trail that will lead you back to the Visitor Center. The Maple and Wildwood Trails are unpaved and a bit more strenuous. 

Parking:  Parking is located at 4000 SW Fairview Blvd there is two pay to parking lots on each side of SW Fairview Blvd.

Park Rules:  Bikes, scooters, and skateboards must remain on roads. No motorized vehicles on trails, other than mobility devices. Dogs must always be leashed.

Public Transit: Trimet Bus 63 (runs daily from 7 am - 6 pm) and the Washington Park Shuttle are available at the Visitor Center. The Max Red and Blue line is located across the Discovery Museum at the Washington Park Max Station. There is the Trimet Bus 63 and the Washington Park Shuttle located on SW Zoo Blvd. Free Washington Park shuttle operates daily from 9:30 am-7 pm. 

Additional Parking Information: Two pay-to-park lots at the Visitor Center and one by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Parking costs $2/hour or $8/day. Enforced from 9:30 am-8 pm. Meters take cards or coins or use Parking Kitty on your phone.

Trail Surface: Overlook Trail is paved. If you would like to go further in the trails after the Daycation it connects to Maple Trail and Wildwood Trail. Maple Trail is mostly gravel. Wildwood Trail is a gravel and natural surface trail with roots. 

Bathrooms: Two accessible gender-neutral bathrooms at the visitor center.

Benches along trail: Benches along Overlook Trail are off of the pavement and do not have companion seating. Benches along Wildwood Trail do not have companion seating and maybe off the path. 

Signage: Directional signage without maps. Educational signage along trails. Signage with maps are at high-traffic areas of trails. Lists all trail names and length, but not surface type.
