You’ll experience four different habitats along this hike at Skyline Ridge: Freshwater pond riparian, oak woodland/mixed evergreen forest, grassland, and chaparral. Park at the Russian Ridge Preserve lot and walk through the pedestrian tunnel to start your hike around Alpine Pond (riparian) and out to the Ipiwa Trail where you’ll begin in woodland forest and continue on to grassland then chaparral before veering left and returning along the Sunny Jim Trail. Stop in at the nature center if it’s open (weekends, spring-fall).
