Join geologist Erika Danielsen for a hike in the rugged, forested hills of “Ohio’s Little Smokies.” For this special hike in celebration of the ODNR 75th Anniversary, hikers will learn about the park’s geologic and natural history, including its location on the Appalachian Plateau and the geologic forces that created the regional hill country. Park Naturalist Jenny Richards will join the group to answer questions and discuss the flora and fauna and cultural legacy of one of ODNR’s original lands.
Participants should meet at the Shawnee State Park lodge parking lot and dress appropriately for this moderately difficult hike. Hikers are encouraged to wear sturdy hiking boots, bring hiking/walking sticks, and have plenty of water.
Free and open to all ages. Prepare for the hike and get more info about the geology of Shawnee State Park and State Forest here [pdf].
