Description

Geared toward land managers, but open to all, this two part workshop will include indoor presentations on the needs and dynamics of riding mountain bikes and horses on trails, and trail design factors that affect the safety and enjoyment of these two modes. We'll conclude outdoors with an invitation to mount and ride a horse in order to experience being 10' up on a 1,200 pound animal, and/or the opportunity to ride a mountain bike on a simple course. Note: Participation in riding a horse or bike will require use of a helmet and the signing of a liability waiver.

Learning Outcomes: A greater understanding of both the physics and desired experiences of mountain biking and horseback riding, design factors affecting both modes, and an albeit brief first hand opportunity to ride in these modes.

Jill Van Winkle, Trails Coordinator, Portland Parks & Recreation

Rocky Houston, Director, Douglas County Parks Department
