The National Park Service and the Santa Monica Mountains Fund invite the public to roll up their sleeves and participate in National Trails Day. National Trails Day occurs annually on the first Saturday in June and is the country’s largest celebration of trails. The Santa Monica Mountains are home to approximately 500 miles of trails.
Using hand tools, volunteers will redefine and reshape portions of the Backbone Trail. This work not only improves public access and safety, it also protects vegetation by clearly defining trail boundaries.
Volunteers should dress appropriately with work gloves, protective footwear, a hat, long sleeves, and pants. Please bring a backpack with a reusable water bottle and sun protection. Tools and refreshments will be provided.
Participants must be at least 8 years old and minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Meet at the Backbone Trailhead parking lot across from Fire Camp 13 (1250 S. Encinal Canyon Rd, Malibu). Certain roads may be closed in the area, please check our reminder email closer to the event for the most up to date information.
