Join reserve naturalists on stroll through the UC Merced Vernal Pools and Grassland Reserve to observe plants, mammals, birds, and other animal life. The 6,500 acre reserve is located at the intersection of Rancher's Road and Ansel Adams Road on the UC Merced campus (5200 N. Lake Road, Merced, CA, 95348). Coyotes and brush rabbits are often seen. A golden eagle may even be spotted.
Bring a day pack with a water bottle, camera, hiking boots, and a hat. The path may be wet and muddy so come prepared for the elements (rain shell/water resistant boots). Meet at 9:30am at the entrance gate. The walk will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. No fee. Limited to 20, but a reservation is required. Open to all. A waiver will be required for all non-UC attendees and will be provided at the beginning of the hike.
