This event is part of our 'First Saturdays' series—these are monthly volunteer opportunities to learn about invasive plant species affecting Bloomington's local ecosystems, how to properly remove and dispose of them, and putting that knowledge into action!
On the first Saturday of each month, March through November, our Vegetation Management staff train and lead a volunteer group to help clear invasive plants out of our parks and green spaces. Come be a part of an important environmental effort!
Note: The July First Saturday Weed Wrangle will actually be held on the second Saturday of the month, July 9, due to the Independence Day holiday the weekend prior.
Individuals can register by clicking the button below, but this is also an excellent volunteer opportunity for groups! To register as a group, please contact our volunteer coordinator at parksvol@bloomington.in.gov.
Duties: For our Weed Wrangle in July, we'll be removing various types of invasive plants such as woody invasives and Japanese stiltgrass from Griffy Lake Nature Preserve.
Age of Volunteers: 12 yrs. and up. (Volunteers under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.) Volunteers under the age of 18 must have an Underage Waiver of Liability signed by a parent or guardian. CLICK HERE to complete our digital waiver.
