Los Trancos Open Space Preserve is an ideal spot to learn about earthquake geology because the San Andreas Fault, one of the world’s longest and most active faults, splits the Preserve.
Visitors can hike the easy 9-stop, 1.5 mile self-guided interpretive trail on their own or join a monthly docent-led hike offered on the first Sunday of every month. To enjoy the experience on your own, refer to the nine associated "Points of Interest" and begin your journey at the trailhead on the left (western) side of the parking lot. Go through the fence and up the hill and start at Station No. 1. Follow the trail and "Points of Interest" from there.
