***[2024-05-14:  The trail has re-opened, the water levels have returned to normal] *** As of the publication of this article the Highland Trail and Lake Hopatcong Trail crossing of the Bear Pond spillway is impassable. This condition will self-correct as the water level of the pond drops in the coming days.  This is a recurring condition at this point of the trail (beavers dam the spillway outflow, the water level of the pond rises, then the dam is removed by property owners and the crossing becomes impassable for a few days)
