The Town of Smoky Lake is located in Smoky Lake County, approximately 120 km northeast of Edmonton at the junction of Highway 28 and Secondary Highway 855. It is approximately one hour’s drive from Edmonton’s city limits.
The Town’s robust business sector includes owner operated retail, restaurant and services as well as chains such as Centex, Home Hardware and Esso. A hub for visitors because of the unique offerings of handmade and home produced foods and crafts, Smoky Lake is the Pumpkin Capital of Alberta and celebrates a weigh off and fair every fall and an annual Stampede in summer.
Steel fabrication is a minor industry in the town and surrounding area with a number of highly qualified and innovative welders, as well as autobody technicians, mechanics, plumbers and electricians. The Town has budget motels, an executive bed and breakfast and Nekinan House, a short stay efficiency room complex operated by Métis Nation of Alberta.
Residential and commercial lands are available for development in the downtown core or with highway frontage. Many businesses plan to expand in the next 5 years, proving Smoky Lake’s viability for investors and business owners. A hospital, primary care network, daycare and K-12 school are foundational amenities for residents of Smoky Lake Region.
