Rector Reservoir Wildlife Area covers 415-acres on the south side of Rector Reservoir and the Conn Creek spillway on Silverado Trail. Parking is available in the road cut out just south of the fenced County corporation yard across from Paraduxx Winery. There is no signage to help you find your way.
The reservoir provides water to the Yountville Veterans Home and is closed to all public access. The trail leads off from Silverado Trail straight up the hillside before it somewhat levels off on the ridge top. Following the ridge line back into the Vaca Mountains to the Stag’s Leap palisades offers expansive views of the Napa Valley area. The Wildlife Area consists of oak woodlands and chaparral with 27 species of mammals, 40 species of birds, and 14 species of reptiles and amphibians. This trail is very popular with hunters, particularly in deer hunting season in August and September.
