Our newest rest stop is at Mooswa where we inherited a lot of work done by the Elk Point Snowmobile group. It has a winter warmup shelter with a stove and some outdoor picnic areas with outdoor toilets.
The Mooswa Rest Stop is next to Mooswa Creek. On the other side of the creek is the small residential community of Riverview created by the Canadian Salt Company in 1947 for their employees. Note their history.
On the Riverview site just by the curling rink in 1886 the Dominion Telegraph Line built a telegraph station when they moved the telegraph line from further south to follow the Carlton Trail. The Carlton Trail was blazed by employees of Fort Edmonton in 1815 and in use through this valley since then. The new telegraph line followed the Carlton Trail (also called the Victoria Trail, or the Winnipeg Trail). (note our history)
