Since the 1950s, Headlands Beach has been a popular day-use park, boasting Ohio’s largest beach area. A summer haven, it draws tens of thousands of visitors every year with its natural, mile-long sandy beach. The newly restored sand dune marsh hosts the northernmost portions of the Buckeye Trail, and two state preserves - Headlands Dunes and Mentor Marsh - are found nearby. Visitors come for spectacular Lake Erie sunsets, the nearby lighthouse, great birding, and the thrill of sea glass hunting.
