Please note:
Dog-walking is allowed in the Preserve's upland area year-round. From April 1 - September 30, dogs are prohibited on the beach between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. From October 1 - March 31, dogs are allowed on the beach at any time.
Tall specimen trees, grassy fields, gurgling wetlands, and a cordate pond create a park-like quality to this property. All of this rolling down to a bluff over a sandy cove with 1300 feet of Vineyard Sound beach. The ponds host populations of rare clam shrimp, the only places where they have been documented on the island. Marl Pond, the easternmost of the ponds, is of special interest: its natural acidity was used to preserve the baskets and hemp ropes of early settlers.
Travel 3.8 miles southwest along North Road from its intersection with State Road in West Tisbury. Just past the Chilmark fire station on the right, turn right at the Land Bank's green signpost onto Brickyard Road and follow signs approximately 2,000' along the narrow dirt road to the trailhead. Parking and access are limited.
