The first park along the Los Angeles River designed and built by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, Elysian Valley Gateway Park opened in 1996. The park provides access to the Los Angeles River Bike Path and views of the natural streambed portion of the river with its abundant  diversity of bird life.
